The DSW will provide direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities, helping them to achieve greater independence, enhance their quality of life, and integrate into the community. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to advocacy, person-centered care, and empowerment.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
Personal Support: Assist individuals with daily living activities, including personal care, hygiene, meal preparation, and medication administration.
Skill Development: Support clients in developing life skills such as communication, social interaction, money management, and household tasks.
Community Integration: Facilitate and encourage participation in community activities, helping individuals build social networks and engage in meaningful experiences.
Advocacy: Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals, ensuring they have access to necessary services and supports.
Behavioral Support: Implement behavior management strategies and support individuals in developing positive behaviors.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of client progress, care plans, and any incidents, ensuring compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
Collaboration: Work closely with other team members, including healthcare professionals, social workers, and family members, to create and implement individualized care plans.
Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate support during crisis situations, utilizing de-escalation techniques and other appropriate interventions.
Qualifications:
Education: Diploma in Developmental Services, Social Work, or a related field.
Experience: Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
Skills: Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Certifications: First Aid/CPR certification. Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training is an asset.
Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, transferring, and assisting individuals with mobility.
